On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on suspect Julia Crews, 37 years of age, of the 9300 block of Clayton Road in St. Louis, Missouri 63124, for one count of Assault in the Second Degree. Crews is being held on a $20,000 bond. A mugshot of Crews is attached.
The probable cause statement reads: On April 23, 2019, the defendant was employed as a police officer for the City of Ladue and was on duty when she responded to a call for a larceny in progress with a disturbance at the Schnucks store located at 8867 Ladue Rd. Upon arrival, the defendant detained a female, AF, due to AF matching the description of the person involved in the disturbance. As the defendant attempted to secure AF in handcuffs, a struggle ensued and AF attempted to flee by running away. The defendant pursued AF on foot. During the short foot pursuit, the defendant gave a verbal warning announcing deployment of her Taser, but drew her service firearm and fired one shot striking AF in the torso. AF suffered physical injury as a result of the defendant discharging her firearm.
Detectives from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are conducting the investigation.
