On Saturday, August 24, 2019 at approximately 12:55 PM, St. Louis County Police officers from the North County Precinct responded to the 1500 block of Leonaire Court for a Shotspotter activation. In the course of the response and investigation, it was determined that a 28 year old male was shot in the lower body by a 60 year old male in front of the 60 year old’s residence. The parties involved were known to one another and were involved in arguments over personal matters. The victim was conveyed to a local hospital and admitted in critical condition. The suspect was arrested on scene without incident. He was initially charged with Assault in the First Degree and Armed Criminal Action on August 25, 2019.
The victim remained at the hospital until he was pronounced deceased on Friday, August 30, 2019. The investigation has been re-classified to a homicide.
The deceased is positively identified as Raymond Johnson, 28 years of age, of the 3200 block of Delor Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri 63111.
On Saturday, August 31, 2019, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on suspect Edward Meeks, 60 years of age, of the 1500 block of Leonaire Court in St. Louis, Missouri 63138, for one count of Murder in the Second Degree and one count of Armed Criminal Action. Meeks is being held on a $150,000 cash only bond. A photo of Meeks is attached.
The probable cause statement reads: The Defendant shot the victim with a firearm. The Defendant was identified by a witness as the person who shot the victim. Victim was shot in the thigh and his femoral artery was severed. Defendant made incriminating statements regarding the incident. Police recovered the weapon that was used.
Detectives from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are conducting the investigation.
