For Immediate Release

On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on suspect Anthony Farr, 26 years of age, of the 4800 block of Anderson Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri 63115, for one count of Murder in the First Degree, one count of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and two counts of Armed Criminal Action. Farr is being held on no bond. A mugshot of Farr is attached.

The probable cause statement reads: In the early morning of November 11, 2019, the Defendant drove over to Kanika Martin’s residence in the 11900 block of Sagunto Terrace. Kanika’s parents and Kanika’s two children were in the residence at the time also. The Defendant is the father of one of those children. At the time of this incident, Kanika and the Defendant did not reside together. While at the residence, the Defendant and Kanika got into an argument in which Kanika reaffirmed to the Defendant that he was going to have to pay child support for the child they had together. The Defendant then left the apartment and stood outside the front living room window and engaged in a phone conversation with Kanika where they continued to argue about child support. Kanika’s parents could hear the Defendant’s voice through the living room window. The victim was sitting on the couch in front of the living room window and looking out the window as she talked with the Defendant on the phone. The phone conversation ended and a short time later, two shots were fired into the residence through the front living room window. Both shots struck Kanika and she died on the couch. Two 9mm shell casings were found in the grassy area right in front of the living room window. The Defendant fled the scene and was arrested hours later at his residence in Ferguson.

Detectives from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are conducting the investigation.
