On Thursday, October 24, 2019, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on suspect Deryon Thomas, 19 years of age, of the 1600 block of Chelsey Drive in St. Louis, Missouri 63136, for one count of Murder in the First Degree and Armed Criminal Action. Thomas is being held on $1,000,000 “cash only” bond. A mugshot of Thomas is attached.
The probable cause statement reads: On October 23, 2019, the defendant and another man were chasing Caleb Smith. Caleb Smith ran into an alley and the man who was with the defendant shot multiple times in the direction of Caleb Smith while the defendant took a knee and pointed something he had in his hand toward the direction of Caleb Smith. Multiple cartridge casings of different calibers were recovered from the area of the shooting. Caleb Smith was pronounced deceased, and had what appeared to be a bullet wound to his head.
Detectives from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are conducting the investigation.
