The Evidence Custodians are primarily responsible for accepting evidence submitted to the Crime Laboratory. They ensure that all items are correctly labeled and packaged. The Evidence Custodians maintain proper chain of custody for all items of evidence including transfers to outside laboratories for additional testing, return to the submitting agency, and transfer to Property Control for storage. In addition, the Evidence Custodians perform clerical duties including distributing laboratory reports, answering phone calls, filing, and locating evidence for court proceedings.
